      Homey Pro uses its Bluetooth antenna to make the initial connection to the device (once the device is added, this is no longer necessary, as the device will only communicate over Thread/Wi-Fi).

      @BudsSmartHome 10 днів тому

      I hear you! Paywalls can be a bummer. But here's the thing: running websites and domains isn't exactly free, and it takes a lot of time and effort to research and write all those detailed instructions on finding and downloading SmartThings Edge drivers. If you prefer, you're always welcome to dive into the research yourself. However, for just $10, you get access to over 30 articles that can save you a ton of time and hassle. It's like buying a map instead of wandering around lost! Thanks for understanding.

      @@BudsSmartHome If you CREATED the edge driver yourself is one thing. But if you are taking someone elses product that you found and putting it behind a paywall then that is where I have issues. IDK maybe I am old school and just like helping people out. I do as much as i can for people for free unless I need to buy something then I have them pay for whatever they need. I have never charged anybody for my time. And I get that you are making this your job and like I said if you where creating the edge drivers then that would be one thing. That is just my view. We are all allowed to have our own views. Does not make one person right or wrong just different.

      @BudsSmartHome 10 днів тому

      I hear you @Slimhaven1. SmartThings has definitely been challenging over the years. However it is still the king IMO when it comes to compatibility with most smart home brands. Can I put a coat of polyurethane over this ? My seat stains very easily ! Ty for this video !

    • @BudsSmartHome
      @BudsSmartHome 11 днів тому

      Yes. Applying polyurethane to a painted surface is a good way to protect the paint. Use a water-based product if you're concerned about color because it won't yellow as much as an oil-based one. Make sure that the paint is fully cured before attempting to add the polyurethane. Thanks as always Bud for your informative videos! Since your video about the Ring keypad last year I now have a simple way for all of my smart home to interact with each other without having to rely on matter (assuming that is that the 'then' function is available in either Alexa or the Google Home...which sometimes it isn't!). This has made a world of difference to things. I.e. using a Smartthings window sensor to activate a VEdge Switch that turns off my Tado thermostat and my extractor fan in my ensuite bathroom. Means that I'm not having to think about wasting energy from the radiator being on or the fan running if the window is open. Total gamechanger really ☺

    As noted, most of these plastic wipes are temporary dress up. I found the easiest was to do that was to use spray on tire shine...which avoids having the rub it into the crevices. Cheapest is Turtle Wax which is spray and walk away no rub. I did it right after the spring siding wash...and again 3 months later, then again. Eventually you may as well just remove and paint them as dark color plastic dyes will always fade to a powder color.

      Thanks for commenting. I eventually needed to remove and paint the shutters on the west side of my home. That is your best option once they fade.

    I just did this but after several days the paint is still tacky. Feeling bummed it didn’t work as your project did. Also, I removed the plastic bumper bits using a knife and prying up. Very simple to do and much easier than taping them off.

      It is highly likely you are using too much paint with too little time between coats. Also, if you used thinner to clean the seat you did not wait long enough for the thinner to totally evaporate. It is actually better to use rubbing alcohol to remove the dust and let the alcohol completely flash off. I recommend that you put it near a heat source to help the paint cure. Use radiant heat not forced air if you can. Alternately, you could place it in the sun if that is doable. As a last resort you can use lacquer thinner and wipe off the paint, wait until the thinner dries, re-sand the seat and wipe with alcohol, and start again.

    So this reads the inside temp? If my inside temp is 73 degrees, and my outside temp is 60, how will it do getting the room to a set 66?

    • @BudsSmartHome
      @BudsSmartHome Місяць тому

      No. It reports the room's temperature. The unit works like any thermostat in your home, you set the desired room temperature and the unit will work to achieve and maintain that setting. The unit has three modes, Fan, Cool and Eco. Cool and Eco are Airconditioning Modes. Eco is just more energy efficient. These mode exchange the warm air in the room with air conditioned air. In other words they circulate the room air. The fan mode expels room air to the outside and brings the cooler outside air into the room. Does this answer your question?

    Very cool, though is it possible to not have Alexa to announce what link she's about to play

    • @BudsSmartHome

      In the settings of your "My Pod" account you are able to select: "Don't read the title before playing." to disable the Alexa announcement before playing your selected MP3 file. 😀

    Yikes yeah this is ill advised IMO. Better method is to use pliers to bend out a portion of the track NOT on but maybe a foot below the bend so you can get rollers switched and bend track back to original shape.

    • @BudsSmartHome
      @BudsSmartHome Місяць тому

      Thanks for your comment. The bend using this method is very slight. It easily goes back to the original position. Many have commented that have used this method with no problems or issues.

    I could NOT this this motion sensor to pair with SmartThings and instead paired it to my Echo Hub that just came out. It's paired NO problems and have setup several routines since. The Sensor reacts FAST and works for my needs and for the LOW price this can't be beat IMO! These also use 2 AAA batteries which are CHEAP and abundant and work GREAT! I will be buying more of these now that my single test unit passed with flying colors!

      John-My sensors connected with the SmartThings “Zigbee Motion Sensor” driver from the “SmartThings Driver (Beta)” channel. Here is the channel link if you want to download the driver. api.smartthings.com/invitation-web/accept?id=450930c1-02a6-43d8-adaa-4cbc51027956 I agree. It’s a great and affordable sensor.

      Yes, it’ll work from a dead hub. It pulls the back up from the SmartThings cloud.
